At Osborn Dressage my method is built on three interdependent pillars; Think Well, Ride Well and Perform Well, forming a balanced approach that strengthens the horse–rider connection through mindset, skill and performance.
SAM OSBORN
EQUESTRIAN MINDSET & PERFORMANCE COACH
1
Think Well
Your mindset shapes how you ride. Confidence, focus and clarity come from understanding your thoughts and managing your emotions. When you think well, you ride well, you’re able to stay calm under pressure and communicate with clarity. You move away from self doubt, unhelpful self talk and narratives that plateau your progression and enjoyment.
2
Ride Well
Good riding is more than technique it’s about feel, timing and connection - and is most certainly nothing to do with perfection! When your mindset supports your skills, you ride with quiet curiosity, clarity, patience and clear intention. Riding well builds trust, confidence, and a stronger partnership with your horse.
3
Perform Well
Performance isn’t just about rosettes and results. It’s about combining your ability to Think Well and Ride Well when you’re under pressure or when it matters most to you. When you Think Well and Ride Well, you’re prepared to compete with confidence, adapt with ease, and stay focussed on the process, not just the outcome.
What to Expect?
With over 30 years experience working with horses and riders, I know that progress only happens when both horse and rider feel safe, understood, and supported. Whether you ride for the joy of it or have competitive ambitions, you’ll find a space here where your goals and your horse’s wellbeing come first.
Developing confident happy partnerships is at the heart of my coaching. My coaching is built around feel: the intuitive, responsive connection between horse and rider. When riders feel confident and secure, they’re free to listen to their horse and ride with clarity and purpose. Sessions are tailored to each rider - whether grassroots or advanced - with a focus on clear communication and rider awareness. The aim is to develop a horse who is confident, supple and engaged.
What matters most to me is feel - the intuitive, responsive connection between horse and rider.
Every session begins with a simple but powerful question:
"What would I like.... and what does my horse need from me to get there? "
That is the starting point for building trust, communication and progress.
A Modern, Horse-Centred Approach
Dressage Coaching – blending classical principles with modern, rider-focused techniques. Sessions are tailored to you, from grassroots to advanced, with equal emphasis on technical skill and mental strategies. The aim? A horse who is confident, forward, supple, and engaged-both physically and mentally - and a rider who feels calm, focused, and ready to perform.
Polework Clinics – offer you a versatile way to improve rhythm, suppleness, and core strength while keeping training varied and enjoyable. With a library of progressive floor plans for all levels, my clinics help you build feel, timing, improved contact, and strengthen your partnership. I am available for individual or small groups in Somerset, the South West, and Surrey.
Mindset and Performance
Alongside the practical, I weave in the psychology of riding. Confidence, focus, and emotional regulation are as important as both your technique and your position in the saddle. From day to day confidence, managing nerves in the warm-up to resetting after a tough day, I’ll help you build tools to ride and live with greater confidence from the inside out.
