Equestrian Mentoring for Riders: Finding Clarity, Confidence and Direction.

Mentoring support for any age, whatever stage you're riding.

We don’t always need someone to tell us what to do. Sometimes, what helps most is having someone alongside us who can help us see things differently: to step back, make sense of where we are and see a way forward.

A Space to Find Clarity

That is where mentoring can be so valuable. When you feel clearer about what you want and why it matters, taking the next step can start to feel a little easier. Sometimes, what you really need is a quiet, supportive space to pause, reflect, and have an honest conversation with someone outside your usual circle.

Equestrian Mentoring Is for Every Stage

Mentoring isn’t just for young riders, starting out in their riding careers. It can be incredibly valuable for all riders amateur/professional as they navigate their riding, education, ambitions and the pressures involved. Support and perspective are things we can benefit from, whatever stage we are at.

Even as experienced riders and adults, there are times when we can feel stuck, uncertain, or unsure about our next step. You might be working towards a big goal but not quite know how to get there. You might be rebuilding after a setback, trying to rediscover your motivation, or noticing the same unhelpful thoughts and patterns appearing and want to break free from them so you can move on.

Sometimes, the simple process of having someone impartial to talk things through with can make all the difference.

Experience Shaped by the Equestrian World

My mentoring approach is shaped by more than 30 years of working within the equestrian industry. Over that time, I have experienced the horse world from many different angles: as a competitor, coach, judge, competition organiser, performance manager, parent, volunteer, and through running a competition yard with an overseas team.

These roles have given me a broad and honest understanding of an industry that can be hugely rewarding, but also complex, demanding, and not always easy to navigate. I have seen the dedication, resilience and passion it takes to keep going, as well as the pressure people can feel to prove themselves, fit in, make the right decisions, or meet the expectations of others.

Alongside my practical experience, I have developed a strong interest in performance mindset, learning and personal development. I am a qualified Montessori teacher and a Master Practitioner in NLP and hypnotherapy, and these areas have deeply influenced the way I think about confidence, communication, behaviour and individual growth. They have helped me understand that people do not all learn, process or develop in the same way, and that the right support can make a real difference to how someone sees themselves, how they respond to challenges, and what they believe is possible.

One of the most valuable lessons I have gathered is the importance of holding on to your own values and beliefs, especially in an environment where opinions, pressures and outside influences can easily affect confidence. Often, people do not set out to cause harm; their comments or expectations may be well meant. But even when it is unintentional, the impact can stay with us and begin to shape how we think, feel and make decisions.

This is why I believe mentoring can be so powerful. It offers the opportunity to reconnect with what matters to you, and make sense of your experiences in a way that feels true to who you are. My role is to support you in finding your own clarity, strengthening your self-belief, and moving forward with a clearer sense of direction.

Here's my story. And here's more information on what to expect when we work together.

What Mentoring Can Offer

My mentoring work is about creating a place where you can slow things down, think out loud, ask questions, and explore what is really going on. Through supportive conversations, thoughtful questioning and meaningful feedback, we work together to help you better understand yourself, uncover your own solutions, and move closer to your ambitions and goals.

Together, we might focus on building new skills, exploring fresh perspectives, rebuilding self-belief, finding motivation, or gently challenging the thoughts that may be holding you back. It may also be about having someone who helps you stay accountable and turn good intentions into meaningful action.

I’m not there to give you all the answers. I’m there to help you discover the answers that feel right for you.

My role is to help you explore, question, reflect and grow- sometimes by supporting you, sometimes by encouraging you, and sometimes by gently challenging the thinking that may be keeping you stuck.

A Supportive and Confidential Conversation

These conversations are completely confidential, honest and supportive. There is no judgement, and there is no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out.

You may be working towards a big goal and would value some support along the way. You may feel ready for change but not know where to begin. Or you may simply be ready to invest some time in yourself and have a conversation that helps you see things from a different perspective.

Why Off-Horse Mentoring Matters

Importantly, this work happens off your horse. Sometimes, the biggest changes in our riding don’t begin in the saddle. They begin with understanding ourselves a little better: our thoughts, beliefs, motivations, fears and the choices we make when things don’t go quite according to plan.

This is closely connected to the principles behind Think Well, where developing a better understanding of our mindset can help us approach challenges, build confidence and move forward with greater clarity. You can find out more about Think Well here.

You don’t have to be a young rider. You don’t have to be struggling and you definitely don’t have to have all the answers before you begin.

Sometimes you just need someone supportive to think things through with.
